Junior? You've got to be kidding me.

This antiquated logic will have you living a deadend existence while life passes you by. Marcus Marshall wasn't going anywhere at Missouri State, regardless of whether he bought into the system and toughed it out. If he hated it, which he evidently did, it's much better for him to move on. There are many other programs who would welcome him with open arms.

As I said, he's only got one chance at a college career. "Toughing it out" for nothing is just about the worst thing you can do.

And please, don't confuse your age with wisdom.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Talk about antiquated logic...take your rose colored glasses off buddy. That sound you heard was life passing by. Sometimes looking in the mirror and being witness to the problem is a good life lesson. Trust me, I've done it. More times than not, an instant change in attitude, realizing your shite does stink, still allows you the opportunity to succeed. Quitting because you feel entitled, which seems to be the culprit in MM's case, is happening way to often in today's world. Sometimes in life you learn to be accountable for your decision and remember who is in charge.

to me, there is a whole lotta difference between, "Coach, I wanna go someplace where I can play," and "Coach I wanna go someplace where I don't have to play any defense."

He sounds like a spoiled brat. I can only imagine how hard it's going to be for him to hold a job later in life.

WuShock Grad would you be so kind as to explain this point of view to coach Bill Snyder at K-State. I need a good laugh to start my day.

I actually agree with a lot of this. I think I would have just liked to see it end in a quiet "moving on" kind of transfer rather than an embarassing blowup over a dispute. Since it's really unlikely that the coach wanted to lose his best player in the middle of a still salvageable season (I know that's a stretch, but it is early and Indy St is a good, comparable example), I have a feeling the timing and vibe of this points toward diva-posturing. That's where MM loses me.

You know what? The fact that Lusk went ahead and benched him for a huge game and ultimately "lost" him over it is probably to Lusk's credit, even if it cost him his own job. He drew a line in the sand and while he may have taken a tough risk, he may also gain his team back. They did almost beat a way better team that day. You just never know.

Although Shaq did not, to our knowledge, ask for a transfer, I cannot overlook the simmilarities between MM and SM. Both were "benched" or "left home" for a game, one quit and the other has responded, at least as of this date (and I expect SM to be over the big hump). I don't know MM's character, but SM has showed his. And that evaluation of character is accomplished during recruiting the player and the player's entire family, especially mom.
"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

I think that it takes a particular blend of talents to be a really good college coach. Not only do they have to be a master of the Xs and Os, they also have to find ways to manage, motivate, and inspire the players (each of whom arrives with a very different outlook on life) to reach their potential, and to join together in a cohesive team. We are fortunate that Coach Marshall is a great psychologist.
